An Easy Ride, just 10 minutes from the village centre
The Bike Bus is Cranfield’s very own cycling specific cafe. Proprietor Grant Phillips has been caffeinating visiting riders here for several years after moving up the hill from nearby Salford.

Grant, is a former road and track cyclist, is originally from New Zealand but loves the area around Cranfield because of the diversity and quality of riding on offer.
The bus is located on Astwood Road just outside of Cranfield at Jolly’s Farm. For locals that means a good place to meet before a ride, refreshments at the end or perhaps a nice easy ride out for families and children on a summer day.
Weekend group rides and club rides visit from as far away as St Albans and Luton.

And there is much more to the bike bus besides wonderful coffee. As well as coffee and cake, Grant serves up a bicycle repair service and organises rides for people just starting out or simply looking for others to ride with.
Providing guidance on safety and road etiquette is high on Grant’s agenda, in recognition that our roads are becoming busier with both riders and cars.

About the bus: Originally from London the bus is an unusual design which interestingly attracts bus enthusiasts as well as cyclists. Its previous owners include Cambridge City Council before it ended service as a school bus. Grant was out riding one day when he spotted his future partner languishing in a compound, impulsively he made the owner an offer and the rest is history.
Excellent coffee and cake. It’s strange how a number of my regular routes happen to pass the Bike Bus!
